Crow Country

Hardin, Montana is just a few miles from Custer's Last Stand National Monument and the Crow Reservation.  The Crow's were having a huge Pow Wow with Indians from all over the US.  Many Indian families were camping in the same RV park as us.

We stayed an extra day in Hardin and drove to ig Horn National Recreation Area.  We drove about 50 miles up the Big Horn River through the Crow Reservation.  We went to the visitor center of the Yellowtail Reservior to discover that we were at the wrong end of the recreational area.  The other end has boat tours, wild horses, and an rv park but it was 3 hour drive away.  Next time.

As we left the visitor center, a very young bear walked across the road in front of us.  We didn't even think that this area was bear country.  11 miles from the visitor center is Fort Smith.  Fort Smith is renowned for its fly fishing.  We were told that Fort Smith is the best place for fly fishing in all of Montana. Another thing about Fort Smith that it is part of the Crow Reservation and you can't buy liquor.  You can bring liquor in, but can't buy it.
