Colonies Continued

As our tour progressed with Peter Hoehnie as our guide, we saw the largest rocking chair in the world.

The homes placed trellises outside around the walls to grow grapes.

Every village had a general store.  The shopkeeper would write the person's name in a ledger with what they took.  Remember they did not use money.

Everyone wore the same clothing.

Amana churches located in the center of each village were a plain looking brick building with no stained glass or steeple.  The people would go to church 11 times per week.

This church is still used today with 2 services on Sunday, first one in German and the later one in English.
